COMMUNICATION ARTS MAGAZINE TAPS SMART PAPERS’ KROMEKOTE BRAND FOR INNOVATIVE PHOTOGRAPHER PROMOTION
"PhotoCards" feature sample work, information
to connect photographers with graphic designers
Magazine's chief editor: 'Simply the finest coated paper in the world'
HAMILTON, Ohio, June 11, 2008 - For the third consecutive year, SMART Papers’ premium triple cast-coated Kromekote® papers are featured in Communication Arts magazine’s unique “PhotoCard” advertising series. The promotion, in the current May-June 2008 issue, showcases talented photographers and their work to the magazine’s 65,000 paid subscribers across North America, Europe and Asia.
Kromekote has been the printing industry standard for top-quality coated papers for more than 80 years. Its mirror-smooth surface coating has been continuously improved for today’s offset and digital printing technology. The brand is recognized as the top choice for high-end projects requiring crisp, photo-realistic printing results.
Communication Arts, the largest and one of the most respected graphic design magazines worldwide, created the PhotoCard promotion to help connect its readers with outstanding photographers whose work has been featured in the magazine’s editorial pages.
SMART Papers, North America’s largest independent manufacturer and marketer of premium coated and uncoated printing papers, will produce all of its papers using 100% cellulosic biomass, primarily wood waste, beginning in 2009. This will eliminate the facility’s use of fossil fuels and make its papers fully carbon neutral—an important first for any U.S. premium papermaker. SMART Papers has the largest selection of Forest Stewardship Council-certified printing paper brands.
The 4x5-inch postcards in the Communication Arts advertising feature are presented on perforated sheets of SMART Papers’ triple cast-coated Kromekote, 12-point C1S. The PhotoCards highlight the photographer’s ability to contrast colors and capture landscapes, people and striking images and include the photographers’ contact information, work philosophy and photographic specialty.
Communication Arts’ publisher Patrick Coyne said the PhotoCards campaign has triggered strong response. “The PhotoCard promotion has helped many photographers increase their visibility with our discerning audience,” said Coyne, who is also chief editor and designer of the magazine. “And SMART Papers’s Kromekote has been an integral part of that success. It’s simply the finest coated paper in the world.”
Anderson Lithograph, known for producing high-quality advertising and promotional materials, prints the PhotoCard promotion using a Heidelberg 40-inch, 10-color press with an in-line UV double coater, allowing variable coating on a moveable second coater unit. The cards are run four-color process, plus one PMS color.
The promotion runs three times a year and provides an affordable, innovative way for photographers to reach creative professionals worldwide—through the magazine, online and direct mail use of the PhotoCards. The next feature is scheduled for the September/October issue.
